A must-read!

JC Miller’s story, The Strangers, has been published by Thieves Jargon. Believe me, you’ll be sucked right in from the first sentence.

Where to begin?

Because my writing has been on a serious hiatus, and now that I’m ready to delve back in with full force, I have no idea where to begin. I’m taking a workshop in Philadelphia with Aimee LaBrie (award-winning author of Wonderful Girl) and I’m so overwhelmed with assignments, writing prompts, reading suggestions and, alas, submitting my own work. The first session went extremely well and the group is comprised of 12 writers with vastly different backgrounds. I was surprised at how my workshop know-how kicked right in and I left feeling exhilarated and ready to pound out thousands of words this week.

I’ve begun by flipping through old notebooks from grad school, re-reading some of my old work and making marginal notes and studying those go-to short stories that I’ve read a million times. It feels good, and now that I have all this time on my hands, I’m hoping this time, I won’t let such a long stretch of time go by without a single word written. All those stories and ideas up in my head have to find a home at some point, right?

Here’s to ass in chair, losing track of the hours, a sore neck and the tap-tap-tapping of my keyboard.

Cheers.

Literary News

I am very excited to announce that my good friend and extremely talented writer, Joe Lynch, has recently been published. His story, Insanity, will be featured in March in the print version of “The Front View,” but you can read it online here:

All over the place

Today I’m reviewing the beginnings of my meager little blog and realizing that I’m all over the place. But I think that’s okay. For so long I’ve kept all of my interests and passions to myself, mostly, and dabbled here and there in things like crafts and design and the like. Now I have this platform where I can discuss and showcase and hopefully inspire others to do so as well. In the coming weeks, I hope to include creativity from friends and colleagues in all forms. So if you have anything you’d like to share, please send it along.

I’ve also been thinking about the connection between writing and other forms of creativity – the things I have started to blog about here. My writing has definitely taken a back seat to everything else in my life and I know I needed that break to rejuvenate and stave off giving up for an even longer period of time. During those weeks and months, I explored everything else that motivates me and gets me excited and lo and behold, it has all led me back to my writing. I’m more eager to write than ever before – I even found myself delving back into old, old stories the other day and revising. I was amazed at how easily this came; normally I agonize over anything that has to do with the written word with my ever present editor interrupting at every paragraph. But this time it came so naturally, and I was pleased and proud of what I had written and new ideas for the revisions seemed to pop right into my head. Now, I know this little period of creative utopia will probably be short-lived, but I’ll take what I can get for now. I truly believe that all forms of creativity feed into one another and I’m excited to see where it continues to take me.

Here’s to Friday and a renewed sense of being.

Cheers.
